PLAY WRITING CONTEST RULES
|
Entry Deadline is May 15, 2010
To further interest in community theatre, encourage playwriting as an aspect of community theatre and promote Michigan playwrights and also the production of new plays by community theatres, CTAM holds an annual Playwriting Contest. An independent panel of judges, who will determine the winning entries, adjudicates all submissions. No musicals or children’s plays are eligible for this contest.
First Prize: $ 500.00
Second Prize: $ 250.00
Honorable Mentions: $ 25.00
RULES
The contest is open to any playwright who lives in Michigan.
Each entry must be accompanied by a letter from a member theatre group of CTAM. The membership list of the Community Theatre Association of Michigan can be found a www.communitytheatre.org or by contacting Vincent Weiler (see below).
Authors may submit more than one play.
The play must be unpublished and cannot have been given a public performance by a professional company.
Plays should be of a suitable length for a full evening performance. Two or more unrelated one-acts fulfill this requirement.
No musicals or children’s plays may be submitted for this contest.
A play adapted from other material (such as a short story) not in the public domain must be submitted with a written statement from the author or his agent, giving permission for the adaptation and agreeing to the terms of the CTAM contest.
A $20 registration fee must accompany each play submitted.
A letter of acknowledgement must accompany the submission of each play. This means that one of our CTAM member groups writes a letter indicating that they know you are submitting an entry. It does not mean that they endorse the play, its subject matter, quality, or its entry. With this requirement, CTAM strives to make playwrights and community theatre groups aware of each other.
Manuscripts must be typewritten and in good form in some type of binding.
Three copies are to be submitted. Each copy must include two title sheets; one with the title and author’s name and address, the other with the title only. (The author’s name will not be made known to the judges.) Manuscripts, received with any name appearing there on, except as above, will be refused and returned.
Date of copyright must appear on both title sheets. Alternatively, the playwright may provide a letter indicating the manuscript does not have a copyright.
Authors wishing to have their scripts returned must submit an additional $5 for return postage along with their registration fees.
A committee of three to five judges will select winners, and their decision shall be final. CTAM reserves the right to award only one prize or no prizes at all, depending upon the scoring results provided by the judges.
Entry Deadline is May 15, 2010
Public announcement and presentation of awards will be made at the annual CTAM Fall Conference, held in either late September or early October.
