PLAYWRITING CONTEST PRIZES & RULES
2008
First Prize: $ 500.00 Second Prize: $ 250.00
Honorable Mentions: $ 25.00
CONTEST RULES
The Contest is open to any playwright in Region III of the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT) which encompasses Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.
Each entry must be accompanied by a letter from a member theatre group of CTAM. The membership list of the Community Theatre Association of Michigan can be found at www.communitytheatre.org
A $20 entry fee must accompany each play submitted. Authors may submit more than one play, but each must be accompanied by the requisite entry fee.
Authors wishing to have their scripts returned must submit an additional $5 for return postage, and a self-addressed large envelope for mailing.
The play must be unpublished and cannot have been given a public performance by a professional company.
Plays should be of a suitable length for a full evening performance. Two or more unrelated one-acts fulfill this requirement.
No musicals or children's plays may be submitted for this contest.
A play adapted from other material (such as a short story) not in the public domain must be submitted with a written statement from the author or his agent, giving permission for the adaptation and agreeing to the terms of the CTAM contest.
A letter of acknowledgment from a member group of CTAM must accompany the submission of each play. (This means that a CTAM member group submits a letter indicating that they know you are submitting an entry. It does not mean that they endorse the play, its subject matter, quality, or its entry. With this requirement, CTAM strives to make playwrights and community theatre groups aware of each other.)
Manuscripts must be typewritten in good script form and in some type of binding. Three copies must be submitted. Each copy must include two title sheets:
o One with the title and author's name and address, as well as the copyright notice
o One with the title and copyright notice only
The author's name will not be made known to the judges. Manuscripts received with any indication of the author appearing anywhere - except on one copy of the title page - will be refused, and returned.
A committee of three to five judges will select winners, and their decision shall be final. CTAM reserves the right to award only one prize or no prizes at all, depending upon the scoring results provided by the judges.
Deadline for entries is May 15, 2008.
Public announcement and presentation of awards will be made at the annual CTAM Fall Convention in late September. Winners will be personally notified on or before September 15 of each year. Scripts will be returned in October, if requested.
First and Second Place winners agree their plays will be offered royalty-free to CTAM member groups for the first calendar year following the contest.
Entries must be postmarked by the deadline [May 15, 2008] to:
